Midweek Minutes
December 30, 2017

Hello, Winners!

I’m afraid this email will be rather short.  My furnace motor went out early this morning.  I noticed it around 4:00 and yes, I have heat now, but it was an interesting day. Thank goodness I have a fireplace and a space heater.

The  Black Hills Energy repairman came and said he did not have the motor, made several calls, and about 11:00 finally located one in Lincoln.  I recommend everyone who has Black Hills (formerly Source  Gas) to get the CAPP program.

Meanwhile, my daughter text me and said she jokingly said she wished I could meet her in York about noon because in her job she transports kids to visit their non-custodial parents, and she was taking the kids from their dad to their mom about then and needed to use the restroom, which she cannot do when she is with boys.

So here’s the cool part. (We call it a “God Thing.”)   My son lives in Lincoln, and he volunteered to get the part and drive to York and meet me.  I text my daughter, and told her we could all meet in York!!!  And we did!

It wasn’t a very long meeting. I watched the little boys while my daughter used the restroom. Then, my son pulled up.  It was fun to see my son who couldn’t come for Christmas due to illness.  Unfortunately, I had to get back home because the nice repairman was going to come back and fix the furnace as soon as I was on the way back, he would know when I would arrive home.

What a day!  So, I didn’t get much else done today. It’s about 60 degrees in here now. I had a whole newsletter planned about the cool digital stuff that Weight Watchers has updated...but you’ll have to come to the meeting to hear about it.  I’m hunched over my laptop because my desktop died (oh, yes, Christmas break has NOT been dull!)

Our meeting in Superior will again be Tuesday, January 2. I hope you will be able to come AND that it will warm up by then!!!

See you in 2018!  (Will I go out and shoot my fireworks at midnight tomorrow? Not sure yet...B.R.R.R.R.R.!!!!)  -Zig

As you'll see in your Weekly, you can learn a lot about yourself by taking a good look at what's behind you. But assess yourself without judgment or blame. You simply want to reflect on the goals you set for yourself this year so you can continue your progress into 2018 and onward. Apply what you learn to set your "what"—goals for next year—and decide your "how": steps you might take to achieve those goals.
Trace it back
Let's say one of your beyond-the-scale goals was to go the gym more often. If you didn't achieve it, try tracing back the behavior chain of your actions and thoughts. Did you wind up working too late most nights? How did that happen? If you realize that, say, you didn't keep track of time well, could you add an appointment in your calendar that pops up to remind you to finish up in time? Or maybe it wasn't so much about working too late as it was—being honest, now—that you didn't really want to go to the gym. What made you feel that way? Did it seem like a hassle to get there? Or you felt uncomfortable and didn't know what to do? What is the step before those thoughts? Maybe it takes 20 minutes to drive to the gym. Maybe you are unfamiliar with the equipment.

Plan for the future

Keep going, tracing your thoughts, feelings, and actions all the way back to "I should go to the gym tonight." Along the way you'll be able to spot where your intentions and your actions diverged. And then, even more important, you'll be able to solve for those moments and bring yourself back on track, so you can set realistic, achievable goals going forward. Maybe, for instance, you'll plan to switch your gym sessions to the morning, or switch to a closer gym.
In the same way, you can use the behavior chain process to see how your steps led to a successful outcome so you can duplicate it elsewhere in your life. If you need some inspiration, check out our Success Stories, each packed with ideas and realistic, how-I-did-it advice.
Set your course for a happy new year of living well and succeeding!
